EPL Matchday 19 Acca – 2nd to 5th January 2023

Well on Boxing Day, we predicted all four results correctly, unfortunately two matches saw the results reversed around from what I’d predicted so I missed out on another win.

Ah well, them’s the breaks and as we move into 2023, we have another set of Premier League games coming up, hot on the heels of the games taking place from the 30th to the 1st January.

The action kicks off on Tuesday tea time with Brentford taking on Liverpool and then on Tuesday night we have an absolute cracker as two high fliers in the Premier League this season, Arsenal and Newcastle United, face off at the Emirates Stadium in what should be a fantastic game.

We have four more games on Wednesday which includes a midlands derby between Aston Villa and Wolves, plus a London derby between Crystal Palace and Tottenham, before we finish off the week on Thursday evening with a massive clash at Stamford Bridge as Chelsea host Manchester City.

So as per usual, I’ve gone through the games coming up for this matchday and put together a little accumulator bet for you, which I have outlined below, which offers a great return on just a £10 bet!

And remember to check back this weekend as it is the Third Round of the FA Cup being contested and there are some cracking ties to look forward to, including a rematch of Thursday’s game between Man City and Chelsea.

Here’s my tips for this midweek set of EPL games.

Bet Analysis: Monday 2nd January

Brentford v Liverpool – Away Win

Brentford held Liverpool to a 3-3 draw at home last season in a game that many felt cost Liverpool the title, and Thomas Frank’s side have been in good form of late, unbeaten in their last five and comfortably in mid-table, with a win over Manchester City at the Etihad in that run. In fact, these are the two teams to have beaten City in the EPL this season so this should be a cracking game especially if Cody Gakpo makes his debut for the Reds. Brentford will be tough opponents here and with home advantage they are going to make things very tough for Liverpool and I see a similar, open and goal-packed game like last season, but I think in the end Liverpool will edge the win.

Bet Analysis: Tuesday 3rd January

Arsenal v Newcastle United – Draw

Newcastle United have won just two of the last 20 games between these two teams and Arsenal have won the other 18 in that time, so why have I gone for a draw here? That’s a good question but one I think is supported by the stats. Both teams have lost just once this season in the Premier League, both are in exceptional form heading into this game. In the past when these teams have met, one has usually been in a much stronger position than the other, with Arsenal usually superior to Newcastle whereas now, I think the two teams are much more evenly matched and as such, I am backing the Toon Army to pick up a very valuable point here.

Bet Analysis: Wednesday 4th January

Aston Villa v Wolves – Draw

A tricky Midlands derby for both teams who have been struggling for a large portion of the season. Wolves remain in the drop zone despite an excellent win away at Everton in their first game back, while under Unai Emery, Villa’s results have improved markedly allowing them to move up the table. With home advantage, I’d have probably shaded Villa to land the win here had Wolves not won at Goodison but this is a talented Wolves side, who won here last season, and who have not lost a Premier League game at Villa Park since 2003. With Villa beaten by Liverpool at home, I think this is a tough derby game and one that will end all-square.

Bet Analysis: Thursday 5th January

Chelsea v Manchester City – Away Win

Since taking over Chelsea, Graham Potter has had a mixed run of results. He finished the first part of the season on the back of a string of defeats which saw Chelsea drop right down the table to 8th. They did land a win on their first game back, but lost Reece James to injury for a month and it is fair to say that they did not look convincing in that 2-0 win over Bournemouth. Man City on the other hand beat Liverpool in the Carabao Cup then followed that up with a win away at Leeds and it looks very much like business as per usual for the Citizens and in truth, I think they are going to win this game far more comfortably than they have other games between the two that they have played in the past.
