EPL Matchday 2 Acca Tips – 19th & 20th August

KERCHING!

First day of the Premier League season and the first acca win of the year! £241.50 wings its way into the account courtesy of a very nice fourfold accumulator win!

That’s a lovely start to the season, but I’m not satisfied there!

I’m back now for the second weekend of the season. This weekend also boasts a number of fantastic games including Tottenham facing a Manchester United, the latter already being the beneficiary of some utterly clueless VAR officiating and refereeing in their 1-0 win over Wolves.

We also have an intriguing London derby to enjoy as West Ham host an improved Chelsea side who will have been heartened by their 1-1 draw with Liverpool at the weekend.

But the biggest game of the weekend comes on Saturday night in a rare 8pm kick off. Champions Manchester City host Newcastle United at the Etihad with both sides recording superb wins on the opening day of the season. City 3-0 winners at Burnley on the Friday night while Newcastle thumped Aston Villa 5-1 to go top of the EPL table, albeit after one game.

There is one postponed game this weekend, Luton Town v Burnley as the Hatters ground isn’t quite ready for Premier League games just yet, which means that with a game on Friday and Monday, we have just seven games to pick from this weekend.

Not that it will matter if I can keep picking the winners like I did last week!

Here’s my selections for this week’s Premier League acca.

Premier League Bet Analysis: Saturday 19th August

Fulham v Brentford – Home Win

These two London sides got off to decent starts last weekend with Fulham earning a big win away at Everton, while Brentford held Spurs to a 2-2 draw at home. The Bees now face a second London derby in their opening two games with a tricky trip to Craven Cottage. Marco Silva’s future at Fulham had been under intense speculation for some time, but the Portuguese boss seems set to remain with the club despite advances from Saudi Arabia and that can only be a good thing. Brentford are definitely a team that is better at home than on the road and Spurs showed that defensively they can be got at. Fulham are a solid team and I think on paper both look well-matched. So a draw then? Well, I’m not so sure. I think home advantage for Fulham will be the decisive factor here so I am backing them to land the win, albeit a narrow one.

Tottenham Hotspur v Manchester United – Draw

I struggle a little with what to make of both these teams so far this season. Spurs looked decent going forward against Brentford but defensively they were very open at times and in truth, you can say exactly the same for Manchester United who were fortunate to beat Wolves 1-0, albeit thanks to a ridiculous VAR decision not to award Wolves a clear penalty in injury time. That said, I feel United are a team that are always going to be dangerous on the counter attack and I can see them having some joy against Spurs here. The Londoners home record against United is pretty decent in recent times so I can’t see Spurs losing the game, but I feel that Ange Postecoglu and his team may have to wait for their first win as I see this Saturday evening showdown ending in a score draw.

Manchester City v Newcastle United – Home Win

The two teams that were the most impressive on the opening weekend of the season will meet on the second Matchday as Manchester City host Newcastle United in what I think will be a fantastic game of football between two sides becoming increasingly well-matched. We all know how impressive City are but the news that Kevin De Bruyne could be out for up to four months is a massive blow for them. That will have given Newcastle a real boost ahead of this game, not that they needed any after their 5-1 thrashing of Aston Villa last weekend. Eddie Howe’s team are looking very strong and with Sandro Tonali looking a masterful piece of business and Isak in superb scoring form, they are going to give City a real test here. This will be close but I am backing City to earn a very narrow win.

EPL Bet Analysis: Sunday 20th August

Aston Villa v Everton – Home Win

Villa were humbled 5-1 by Newcastle last weekend and saw defender Tyrone Mings go down with what looked like a horrible knee injury. But in the early exchanges of that game they did look very dangerous and I think they are going to score goals, especially at home. I can’t say the same for Everton though as they were defeated 1-0 at home by Fulham and the signings that they have made since don’t instil me with any confidence that they are going to find this season any easier than the last. Sean Dyche is a fine manager but he is going to find this a real struggle once again and I think they are going to leave Villa Park on the end of a beating at the hands of the home team.
