EPL Matchday 34 Tips – 29th & 30th April 2023

After a very busy period of three games in around seven days or so for most teams, we now hit the final of those three games this weekend ahead of the first leg of semi final ties in all three European competitions.

We have already seen Manchester City take a major stride towards the league title with a 4-1 win over Arsenal at the Etihad in midweek, allied to the Gunners dropping six points in their previous three games before that, City are now just two points behind Arsenal but with two games in hand.

At the bottom, points for Leeds United and Nottingham Forest have seen them move away from the drop zone. Leicester, despite a win and a draw in their last two games, remain in 18th place, but Everton have dropped down one spot, although they do have a game in hand on the three teams above them in the table.

Aston Villa and Liverpool have continued their better form of late with Villa now lying fifth and Liverpool sixth, while Spurs have dropped down to 7th on the back of a couple of very poor results.

There is still obviously plenty to play for over the remainder of the season for a great many teams and the good thing about that is that this means that there is usually something at stake in each game, and not so many games where teams are just going through the motions.

So what I have done is go through the games taking place this weekend as per usual, and come up with the following set of tips!

EPL Bet Analysis: Saturday 29th April

Crystal Palace v West Ham – Draw

I have to hand it to Roy Hodgson as I think since he has come in, even after his first defeat to Fulham in the week, he has moved palace well away from the drop zone and into a position where I feel that being eight points clear of the drop zone makes them almost safe. One more win would do it for sure I think but I can also say the same for David Moyes at West Ham who despite losing to Liverpool in midweek have moved onto the same number of points as Palace and as with their London hosts, one more win for the Claret and Blue would confirm them in the Premier League next season. However, with both teams losing in midweek, my feeling here is both managers may well feel a point will be a good result here to settle the ship again and move another point away from the drop zone and as such, I think a 0-0 or 1-1 draw is the most likely outcome here.

Brentford v Nottingham Forest – Home Win

After earning a superb win away to Chelsea in midweek, Brentford moved into 9th place in the league table and left Frank Lampard still searching for his first win as caretaker boss/. Brentford meanwhile moved up to ninth in the table just two points behind Brighton but having played three games more. They take on a Nottingham Forest side who lost narrowly at Liverpool at the weekend but then secured an outstanding 3-1 win over Brighton in midweek. That result moved them out of the drop zone and ended a long run of games without a win. Steve Cooper retains the support of the Forest board and faithful after a tough season in the Premier League and their away form is such that I can’t tip them here to get anything from this game as I think at home Brentford are a tough task for anyone to beat. I’m backing the Bees to buzz to the win here.

EPL Bet Analysis: Sunday 30th April

Bournemouth v Leeds United – Draw

Bournemouth have won three of their last five games but they have not yet played their midweek game (away to Southampton in a real relegation battle) so their position could be improved, or worsened, by the time Leeds come at the weekend. Javi Gracia’s team have struggled over the last few weeks, picking up a point at home against Leicester when they really should have scored more than one goal but in the end were left hanging on a little as the Foxes came back into the game in the second half. Last time at home, Bournemouth lost 0-4 to West Ham and I am backing Leeds to get something here with a draw.

Manchester United v Aston Villa – Home Win

These teams lie 4th and 5th in the table but United have played three games fewer and are five points ahead of Villa, which does tend to show the gap between the two. However, Villa have not been beaten in any of their last ten games since losing to Arsenal and they have won eight of those games including several notable wins on the road. United have won their last three Premier League games, but have won just one of the last four in all competitions. This will be very close, but I am backing United to sneak the win at home here.
