Euro 2024 Qualifiers – Matchday 9 Tips – 17th, 18th November

This week sees the final set of Euro 2024 Qualifiers being played across Europe. By the end of these two sets of games, we will know 21 of the 24 teams that will be participating in the finals next summer.

We will also know the 12 teams that will make up the three Euro 2024 Playoff paths, all aiming to clinch one of the three remaining spots in the tournament. These games will be played in March next year.

Last time out, we saw eight teams confirm their place in the finals in Germany; Spain, Scotland, England, France, Turkey, Belgium, Austria and Portugal. They join hosts Germany in being confirmed as through for next summer.

A further 12 teams will be confirmed as joining them over the next few days and once those qualifiers are known, we will also then be able to confirm how the Euro 2024 Playoffs look and who will be competing in those too.

As such, I need to be a bit careful with the teams that have qualified as there is a possibility that their managers may decide to play a more experimental team in their remaining qualifiers, with a view to looking at players ahead of next summer’s tournament.

Therefore, I will probably be looking a bit more closely at the games I am putting together for this set of tips.

Let’s take a closer look at them now.

NBDue to time constraints this week, I’ve not included any of Thursday’s games in this accumulator, only games taking place Friday and Saturday are included.

Euro 2024 Bet Analysis: Friday 17th November

Finland v Northern Ireland – Home Win

Northern Ireland cannot qualify for the tournament next summer, while Finland’s only option is through the playoffs, so there is little to play for in this game. However, both sides will want to use this game as a stepping stone to building up their team for the next round of Nations League and World Cup Qualifiers, which will be on the horizon after next summer. Both have had pretty poor qualifying campaigns,  with Northern Ireland’s only two wins coming against San Marino. I can’t see that changing for the Irish here against a Finnish side who got their best result of the group stage when beating Kazakhstan 1-0 away from home in the last set of games. I am backing the Fins to add another win to their record here against an Irish team badly out of sorts.

Poland v Czechia – Draw

Group E has certainly been one of the more sho cking in terms of results and the fact that aside from the Faroe Islands, who have just one point from their seven games, any of Albania, Czechia, Poland or Moldova could still qualify for the finals next summer. In this fixture, the pressure is massively on Poland as they lie third in the group and this is their final Qualifying game. The Poles are three behind group leaders Albania and one behind today’s opponents with Moldova a further point back but also with two games to play.  Matchday 9 sees all four of these teams facing off (Moldova face Albania in the other game in this group) and if we see wins for Albania combined with a win or draw for the Czechs, then these two teams will qualify. I think that is the most likely outcome here, hence I am backing the draw.

Euro 2024 Bet Analysis: Saturday 18th November

Armenia v Wales – Away Win

Saturday’s afternoon kick off in Yerevan is a hugely important game in the context of Group D. Turkey are already through from the group and it is now down to how Wales and Croatia perform in their final two games to decide who joins them. Armenia could also make it through if they were to win their last two games against Wales and Croatia. So this game is hugely important. Armenia beat Wales 4-2 in the first game between the two in this group but I think away from home, Wales can use the pace of Dan Jones and Brennan Williams on the counter attack to cause their hosts problems. I can’t see many goals in this one but Wales will know only a win is good enough and I think they will just about get it.

Netherlands v Rep of Ireland – Home Win

The Republic of Ireland’s hopes of qualifying for the finals next summer now lie through the playoffs, whereas the Netherlands need to match or better Greece’s result in what will be the final game for the Greeks in the qualifiers, in order for Ronald Koeman’s team to go through on Week 9 and if not, then they’ll have a second chance when they take on Gibraltar in their final game in the group. To all intents and purposes, the Netherlands are through, barring a miracle set of results and I think that they will make sure of that here with a home win against an Irish side that is nowhere near as strong as some of the top Republic of Ireland teams of the past.
