FA Cup & Premier League Weekend Acca – 19th & 20th March

We’ve got a somewhat unusual mix of games this week to pick from as we have three Premier League games taking place over the weekend, as well as the four FA Cup Quarter Finals.

So between those seven games I have come up with my usual weekly fourfold bet combining selections from both competitions.

Last weekend started great with two winners in the first two games, but Sunday’s tips didn’t quite work out, although both games were very close to what I predicted. However, in the world of acca betting, close is not good enough!

Usually in the FA Cup quarterfinals, you will likely find a couple of the bigger teams drawn together, but the big three in this year’s competition, Chelsea, Man City and Liverpool, have all been drawn away from home against weaker opponents.

So I am not anticipating the odds on this accumulator bet to be the greatest, even if I can supplement my selections from the FA Cup with some picks from the Premier League games this weekend, where some better odds may be available.

Of course, with FA Cup games, I will also have to consider whether the top teams may play slightly weakened sides with rotating players in and out of the squad, so that could well factor in to the games I decide to bet on this week.

Here’s my four tips for this weekend.

Bet Analysis: Saturday 19th March

Aston Villa v Arsenal – Away Win

Our first game of the weekend is from the Premier League and sees Aston Villa taking on Arsenal. The Gunners saw their long winning record ended by Liverpool in midweek and they head to Villa Park to face a Villa side that also saw a three-game winning run ended at West Ham last week. Villa probably deserved a point from that game based on the possession and shots on goal they had and they’ll need to be more clinical in front of goal in this game if they are to avoid a defeat. Arsenal played well in defeat against Liverpool, especially in the first half and Mikel Arteta will know a similar level of performance here should be enough to get them the win that they need to remain in the top four. This will be close but I am backing Arsenal to snatch the win.

Bet Analysis: Sunday 20th March

Crystal Palace v Everton – Home Win

It may have gone unnoted in some quarters but Crystal Palace are unbeaten in their last five games and earlier this week, the earned a draw with Manchester City at home. In contrast, Everton’s sole win in their last five games has come in the FA Cup at home to non-league Boreham Wood and the pressure is really on Frank Lampard’s team to start delivering results. However, I can’t quite see that happening here against a Palace side who I feel will be at full strength for this game, especially with a Wembley semifinal spot on the horizon. Everton are more concerned about their Premier League status and as such, I am backing Palace to claim a narrow win here.

Southampton v Manchester City – Away Win

Southampton have played Manchester City twice this season in the Premier League and drawn both games, so they won’t be too fazed at facing the Premier League leaders for a spot at Wembley in the semifinals. Home advantage is also a positive for the Saints and you can bet that Ralph Hassenhutl will have targeted that as a goal for his team. The problem is, even if City rest some players for this game, I still feel they have so much talent in their squad that Southampton won’t find it easy. City won’t want added time and so I am backing them to pick a strong team here and claim a win.

Tottenham v West Ham – Home Win

Antonio Conte’s Tottenham have picked up their form over the last few games and that may just be in time ahead of this battle for the top four against fellow Londoners West Ham United. The Hammers won the game between the two earlier this season 1-0, Michail Antonio scoring the goal, but Spurs have now got Harry Kane and Son back in tandem and Kane has scored 11 goals in 15 games against West Ham, only scoring more against Leicester. The Hammers have started to wobble a bit of late but they are still picking up key wins, but for me, Spurs at home is not a game that West Ham will be too confident of winning. As such, I am going for a Spurs win.
