Midweek Premier League Acca Tip – 25th, 26th April

With a fair few postponed fixtures from earlier in the season still to be played, we have almost a full game week of games being played in midweek this week, so I thought after yet another near miss at the weekend, that I would try to get this one over the line!

I can’t quite believe my luck at the moment. I am sounding like a stuck record I know but once again one result and one goal was the difference between success and another blank. Let’s hope that for once, the gods of fortune will look favourably upon this bet for the midweek!

There’s a solid chance they will as I’ve gone for four games that I think offer a combination of good odds on the selection that I like most from each game, as well as the data showing that this selection looks to be a solid choice.

Games in midweek this week take place from Tuesday through to Thursday but we’ve not backed the Southampton v Bournemouth relegation battle on Thursday, so my four picks below are from games played on the Tuesday and Wednesday.

It of course includes what could well be the Premier League title decider as Manchester City host Arsenal at the Etihad on Wednesday evening, with Arsenal coming into the game now in a position where they really must win the game in order to repair the damage from three successive score draws in the league.

City though are in superb form and after making light work of Sheffield United in their FA Cup Semi Final at the weekend, they’ll be hoping to take a massive step towards the league title with a win here on Wednesday night.

Let’s take a closer look ay my set of tips for this week.

EPL Bet Analysis: Tuesday 25th April

Wolves v Crystal Palace – Draw

Both these teams have seen an improvement in form over their last few games which has moved them out of immediate danger of relegation and now just one win or two away from safety. Wolves lie 13th in the table with 34 points, six clear of the drop zone and Palace are on 37 points, nine clear of the last relegation spot and with a markedly better goal difference than any of the teams in that area of the table. I think a win for Palace here makes them safe, while one for Wolves would almost certainly make them safe for next season too. However, I think that the momentum both sides have built over the last few games will be important for them to keep and I can see both teams cancelling each other out a bit in what will likely be a low-scoring and tight game that will most likely end up as a draw.

Aston Villa v Fulham – Home Win

Aston Villa grabbed a late equaliser away to Brentford at the weekend, which wasn’t enough to extend their winning run to seven games, but did mean that they remain unbeaten and hold onto sixth place in the table, one point ahead of Liverpool although the Reds have a game in hand. Fulham though moved back into ninth in the table on the back of their second win in two games, a comfortable 2-1 home win over Leeds. The Londoners have sorely missed Aleksandar Mitrovic (suspended) and I think that is especially the case in away games, where his ability to hold the ball up and bring players into the games is vital. With home advantage, I can see Villa eking out the win here but it should be a closely fought battle.

EPL Bet Analysis: Wednesday 26th April

Chelsea v Brentford – Draw

These teams like 11th and 10th in the EPL table respectively and both have picked up just two points from the last 15 available in the Premier League. Brentford did stop Aston Villa’s run of wins with a 1-1 draw at the weekend, while Chelsea were the only Premier League team not to have a game this weekend (either in the PL or in the FA Cup Semi Finals), which should mean they are well-rested here. The problem is, this Chelsea team is just not performing and Frank Lampard is having a torrid time as caretaker manager getting any kind of performance out of a team that has lost five of their last seven and has only drawn the other two. As such, with both teams out of sorts, I think a draw is a very solid option, and great value, here.

Manchester City v Arsenal – Home Win

The biggest and most important game of the Premier League season takes place at the Etihad on Wednesday. A win for Manchester City will mean that they will have two games in hand on Arsenal and are just two points behind them in the table, giving City a potential four point advantage with five games left to play. A win for Arsenal would put the Gunners eight points ahead of City, but with City still having two games in hand. After three draws in a row, this is now a game Arsenal cannot afford to lose and really, I feel, need to win. The only problem is City have beaten them twice already this season and are in fantastic form, which means I can’t back anything other than a City win here.
