New Year’s Premier League Acca – 30th Dec – 1st Jan 2023

Why are Premier League sets of fixtures like buses? Because you wait a month for one and then three turn up at once! No, I haven’t been raiding the Christmas cracker jokes to start off this set of tips, but that is how it feels given that we have three sets of games one after the other over the festive period.

This set of matches is the middle one taking place from the 30th December, over New Years eve and concluding on New Years Day.

We have some intriguing games to enjoy here with Manchester United making what is looking like a tricky trip to the midlands to take on Wolves, Fulham will be hoping to take three points against Southampton, while Manchester City face Everton at the Etihad.

The action kicks off on Friday with an intriguing game at Anfield as Liverpool face Leicester while before that, we have a London derby as West Ham and Brentford clash at the London Stadium.

Sunday also sees two games with Aston Villa heading to London to take on Spurs on New Year’s Day, followed by Nottingham Forest hosting Chelsea at the City Ground in what should be an intriguing game between two teams looking to find some form in this early part of the second stage of the season.

What will be interesting here is how managers manage their squad with another set of games set to take place from the 2nd to 5th January. Three games in the space of around 10-12 days is a punishing schedule to begin with back after the World Cup and I can see managers being forced to rotate players, particularly with this game coming in the middle of the other two.

Let’s check out my tips now for this set of games in the EPL.

Bet Analysis: Friday 30th December

West Ham v Brentford – Home Win

West Ham badly need to make a good start to the second part of the season as they sit just above the relegation zone and that is a very poor return for a team with this much quality. They face a Brentford side who have proven tough to beat this season and who finished the first part of the season in a respectable 10th position in the league table. The Hammers had just one win in their last five heading into the break, but I am expecting David Moyes to have worked hard with his team to iron out the mistakes they were making and they can make steps here by landing a win against their London rivals on Friday night.

Bet Analysis: Saturday 31st December

Bournemouth v Crystal Palace – Home Win

Until a League Cup defeat on penalties in September 2020, Palace had won all the previous three games between the two. Patrick Vieira’s side lie 11th in the table, three places and three points in front of Bournemouth, having played one game fewer too.  However, the Cherries ended a run of four defeats in a row with a thumping 3-0 win over Everton at home in their final EPL game before the World Cup and I think they’ll see this game as a great opportunity to pick up three more points as they continue their quest to move away from the relegation zone.

Brighton v Arsenal – Away Win

Brighton have won both of the last two games against Arsenal, both on the road and they are unbeaten in their last three against the Premier League leaders. Mikel Arteta will know that his team are going to have to perform very well here if they are to land the win and I think he will be under no illusions as to how difficult this task will be. I do feel that without Gabriel Jesus, Arsenal may struggle a little in front of goal until he is back, but the rest of the team has been playing so well and with so much confidence that it is hard to back against them, even in this tricky game. As such, I think Arsenal will do just enough to pick up another three vital points.

Bet Analysis: Sunday 1st January

Tottenham v Aston Villa – Home Win

There’s no doubt that Spurs fans will be hoping their team can achieve a bit more consistency in this second part of the season, and the same is true for Aston Villa fans, so it should be intriguing when the two clash in London on New Year’s Day. Villa have found form since letting Steven Gerrard go and replacing him with Unai Emery, with the Spaniard picking up three wins from his last four games to move Villa away from the drop zone. In fact, Spurs and Villa have the same form over the last five games in the EPL and that will be a warning to Spurs that this game won’t be easy. I think it will indeed be close and I can see Villa pushing Spurs hard here but I still feel Tottenham will come away with the win.
