Premier League Acca Tips – Matchday 14 – 2nd & 3rd December

We’re back with the Premier League this weekend and it is going to be a very busy period for the top teams as over the next few weeks they will have Premier League games each weekend up to the Christmas period, plus in midweek they will have one set of Premier League fixtures, the final Group games in the European competitions and the Carabao Cup Quarterfinals all coming up before Christmas.

Then of course, its the festive period with all the games that brings from the 23rd December through to the 1st and 2nd January.

This means that over the next month or so, some of the sets of tips I write may be a little in advance of the previous set of tips being played out. Not ideal I know but it hasn’t been too problematic in the past as we have landed some good wins over December and January in previous seasons.

This weekend’s action sees some big games on both Saturday and Sunday and we have an even split of five games on each of the two days to pick from.

Saturday’s big game is the late evening game between Newcastle United and Manchester United at St James’ Park. Both teams have been in Champions League action this week, one earning a draw which didn’t do their hopes a great deal of hope, the other robbed by a ridiculous VAR decision in Paris.

Other games this weekend see a London derby between West Ham and Crystal Palace, Liverpool taking on Fulham at Anfield while the new Premier League leaders Arsenal will take on Wolves at the Emirates knowing a win will keep them top of the table regardless of how any of their main rivals perform.

Then on Sunday there’s a huge game at the Etihad as Manchester City welcome Tottenham with both sides in desperate need of a win. City having drawn their last two Premier League games, while Spurs have lost all their last three after going 10 games unbeaten at the start of the season.

Let’s take a look at the games I have tipped for this weekend’s action.

EPL Bet Analysis: Saturday 2nd December

Newcastle United v Manchester United – Home Win

The big game on Saturday night sees Newcastle face off against Manchester United, with the home side already having enjoyed a 3-0 win over the visitors at Old Trafford in the Carabao Cup this season. Erik Ten Hag’s Manchester United team have had their struggles recently, notably in the Champions League, but their Premier League form over the last six games or so is generally very good. As such, this is not going to be quite as easy an evening for the home side as it was a few weeks back. That said, I think Newcastle will feel that this really is a must win game for them. That defeat at Bournemouth a couple of weeks ago was a real shocker of a result and while they bounced back against Chelsea last weekend, I think they’ll know they can’t drop any more points, especially at home, to their rivals. United will be hoping for more of the same as they got against Everton last week, where Garnacho’s brilliant overhead kick lit up the game. However, I think the home side are just a bit too strong and as such, I am backing them to land the win.

EPL Bet Analysis: Sunday 3rd November

Bournemouth v Aston Villa – Away Win

Bournemouth have won three of their last four to ease the pressure on manager Javier Iraola, but they face an Aston Villa side who over the last eight games, have the best form of any team in the country. Unai Emery has certainly lit a fire under this Villa team as their win away last week at Tottenham showed. Those three points moved Villa into fourth place in the title race hot on the heels of Liverpool, Manchester City and Arsenal ahead of them. They should therefore feel very confident that they will get a positive result here against a Bournemouth side who have not been the strongest at home and who are still conceding more than their fair share of goals. Take Villa to land a key win here.

Chelsea v Brighton – Draw

I wonder which Chelsea team we will witness in this game on Sunday. The one that held Manchester City and beat Spurs, scoring four goals in each of those games, or the team that lost at home to Nottingham Forest and who were thrashed 4-1 by Newcastle last weekend? Brighton have been a little more consistent of late but they have one win in their last five games, but only one defeat with draws being their main issue. In fact, that’s the scoreline I am going to go for here given that I feel both sides are well matched and both probably know avoiding defeat is more important than picking up the win and hence the draw looks a solid bet.

Manchester City v Tottenham Hotspurs – Home Win

This should be a very intriguing game. City have drawn both of their last two EPL games, while Spurs have lost their last three after going 10 games unbeaten at the start of the season. One of those records will continue here and one will likely go and I think it will be City’s that stops as I am backing them to get a solid result here against a Spurs team that look well out of sorts at the moment. Their confidence has taken a real knock and I can’t see them having the wherewithal to regain it at City.
