Premier League Matchday 24 Acca – 18th 19th Feb

We were so close to landing the Champions League acca in midweek, with just one of the four results letting us down, so I am hoping we can go one better with our Europa League acca tips that we posted up for Thursday earlier today.

This set of tips though is for the weekend’s Premier League action and these games come hot on the heels of a key game in midweek between Arsenal and Manchester City, which the visitors ended up winning by a 3-1 scoreline.

That result pushed Arsenal out of top spot in the table for the first time in a good while and saw City take over on goal difference, although the Gunners do have a game in hand on City at the moment, but they also still have to go and face at the Etihad in April in what is looking like a potential title decider.

However, this weekend there are plenty of winnable games for the top teams, but also some games where the top teams could come unstuck in what should prove to be an exciting set of games.

Arsenal travel to Aston Villa in the opening game of the weekend while Manchester City face an away day at Nottingham Forest. The big game on Saturday at the top of the table sees Newcastle hosting Liverpool, while at the bottom Everton take on Leeds in what is a massive game for both these relegation threatened teams.

Sunday sees an intriguing clash at Old Trafford as Manchester United host Leicester City with the Foxes very much back in form, while the final game of the weekend is a London derby that pits Tottenham, who will be without Antonio Conte, against West Ham United.

As always, I have gone through the fixtures this weekend and come up with this fourfold accumulator bet. Here’s hoping it proves to be a winner!

Bet Analysis: Saturday 18th February

Wolverhampton Wanderers v Bournemouth – Home Win

Wolves have started to find some form under Julen Lopetegui and they continue to rise on up the table after three wins in their last four EPL games. In contrast Bournemouth are on a downward slide and they have picked up just a couple of points from their last few games, which has seen them drop into the relegation zone. Form suggests that Wolves will win this game relatively easily but I am not sure it will be quite as easy as that suggests. Bournemouth will also feel this is a game that they could end their poor run of form in and as such, I expect the Cherries to put up a real fight here, but in the end I think Wolves extra quality in midfield will be key to the home side landing the win.

Brighton v Fulham – Home Win

At the start of the season if you had said these two teams would be meeting with a potential Europa League spot on the horizon for both teams, you probably would have been laughed at but Brighton and Fulham have played superbly well this season to fully deserve their lofty positions in the table. However, here I have to go with the Seagulls to land the win given their excellent form of late and the fantastic passing football that they play. Fulham will run them close but I think Brighton win this game.

Newcastle United v Liverpool – Draw

Newcastle United have the best defence in the Premier League and they have also lost just one game all season long, however that defeat came at the hands of Liverpool, a 2-1 loss at Anfield, and the Toon Army will be primed to gain a degree of revenge for that defeat here. However, they come into this game in a bit of shaky form themselves and while Liverpool’s form is poor, they did play much better against Everton on Monday to win the Merseyside derby 2-0. With Newcastle dropping points in recent games and the Reds in desperate need for an away result to offer some hope for better things on the road, I think this one ends in a 1-1 draw.

Bet Analysis: Sunday 19th February

Tottenham v West Ham – Home Win

With Antonio Conte told to rest up at home and fully recuperate from his gall bladder operation a couple of weeks back, the Italian will be absent for Spurs next few games. However, that could be a blessing in disguise as the manager was present for last week’s 4-1 thrashing by Leicester and there’s no doubt he’d want a big reaction from his players to that defeat. I do get the feeling that Spurs are kind of in limbo at the moment with it an open secret Conte is set to leave at the end of the season but even so, they should be pushing hard for a Champions League spot. A game against a West Ham side who have been struggling themselves of late offers Spurs a chance to do that.
