Premier League Matchday 5 Acca – 16th 17th September

We weren’t too far off last week, if I’d swapped the Hungary draw tip with the England win, I’d have been in, but to be fair, both of those results were somewhat unexpected.

Well, at least we are back to our usual weekend slot for our tips this week and of course, that means the Premier League is back and we are now up to Matchday number 5.

We kick off with Wolves taking on Liverpool in the 12.30 kick off. This was the game that saw Liverpool reach their nadir last season, when Wolves ran out 3-0 winners against Jurgen Klopp’s Reds.

This time around, Liverpool are on a high after recording three wins and a draw in their first four games, two of those wins secured despite playing a considerable amount of time with ten men against their opponents.

Manchester City face a tricky game away at West Ham, while Manchester United and Brighton will renew their rivalry once again, which has seen United win just one of the last four games between the two, that being a penalty shootout win at Wembley in the FA Cup Semi Final last year.

Sunday sees Arsenal also make a tricky trip up north to face Everton, a team that they have lost to on their last two visits to Goodison Park. So will Mikel Arteta be able to get the better of one of his former clubs, or will he be on the end of another surprise result in Liverpool?

Let’s take a look at our selections for this weeks games.

Premier League Bet Analysis: Saturday 16th September

Wolves v Liverpool – Away Win

Last season, Liverpool put in arguably their worst performance of the campaign when they were beaten 3-0 by Wolves. This year, Jurgen Klopp’s team are in a much better position, having picked up 10 points out of a possible 12 and having played two tough away games in that run, at Chelsea and Newcastle. Wolves start to the season has seen them pick up one win so far but they have shipped four goals at home to Brighton and three on the road at Palace. That does make me wonder what Liverpool’s rampant attack led by Mo Salah and Luis Diaz could do against a Wolves defence that isn’t as solid as it was last season. As such, I think that Liverpool should have enough to pick up another vital three points on the road here.

Manchester United v Brighton – Draw

These two teams have played some fantastic games in recent times and strange as it may seem, Brighton have won three of the last four, and only lost the other game on penalties in the FA Cup Semi Final last year. United have got superb form at home, and Brighton are also one of the best teams on the road in the Premier League over the last 12 months. The Seagulls won here last season 2-1 on the opening day of the season and it has been four games since any Manchester United win over Brighton. I can’t see the Red Devils losing at home here, their form is fantastic in that regard, but by the same token Brighton are a very, very good team and dangerous on the road. As such, I think a draw is the most likely of the three result options.

Aston Villa v Crystal Palace- Home Win

Aston Villa have somewhat contrasting form in the EPL this season. They are unbeaten in their two home games, winning both, but have lost heavily on the road twice to Newcastle United and Liverpool. Palace lie above Villa after a solid start to the season that has seen them pick up seven points. Roy Hodgson has got his team playing some lovely football at the moment and in Eberechi Eze, has a player who has broken into the England team alongside Marc Guehi. Despite that, I think Villa are better than their two away performances suggest and as such, I am backing them to land an important home win here in what will likely be a tight and close game.

EPL Bet Analysis: Sunday 17th September

Everton v Arsenal – Away Win

Everton secured their first goals and point of the season in a 2-2 draw away to Sheffield United last time out. That at least gives Sean Dyche something to build on after they lost their opening three games of the season. Arsenal have dropped just two points so far this season and they look like being one of the main contenders to Manchester City once again. Their record at Goodison is worrying though having lost on all their last three visits and in fact Everton have won four of the last six between the two. That said, I can’t see that run continuing here as even with a red hot atmosphere at Goodison Park, I think the Gunners have too much to let more points slip through their fingers here.
